Overview

Crest puts a tall, sharp bump right at the start of the stroke: it peaks at 67 gf just 0.4 mm down, so your finger feels the key the instant it starts to move. Once you push past it, the force falls to 45 gf and your finger’s momentum carries the press cleanly through actuation.

It is the switch for people who type a lot and want every keystroke confirmed. Each switch is factory lubed on the spring and housing rails while the stem legs stay dry, so the bump keeps its full sharpness, with no scratchy tail after it.

  • 67 gf bump at 0.4 mm
  • Crisp, no scratch after the bump
  • Made for long typing sessions
  • Factory lubed, bump left dry

Force curve

How hard the key pushes back at every depth of the press, drawn through its measured actuation, peak and bottom-out forces. The dashed line is the way back up.

Force curve · Crest Tactile

Crest Tactile force curve. The key starts at 25 gf, rises to a 67 gf tactile bump at 0.4 mm and drops away. It registers at 2.0 mm with 45 gf and bottoms out at 4.0 mm with 65 gf. On the way up the force typically runs about 4 gf lower and the bump is softer.

Anatomy(4)

Four parts, each in its own plastic and colour. The materials decide much of the sound.

  1. 0-01top housing

    PolycarbonateClear

Rigid, with a brighter, sharper sound. Clear, so RGB lights the whole switch. Closes the switch and guides the stem; shapes the sound of the upstroke.

  2. 0-02stem

    POM

Self-lubricating: the smoothest stroke and a soft, creamy sound. The moving part. Its cross holds the keycap; its legs ride over the tactile bump.

  3. 0-03spring

    20 mm single-stage spring

Sets the weight: how hard the key pushes back at the top and at the bottom of the stroke.

  4. 0-04bottom housing

    Nylon

Softer plastic that rounds off the sound into a deeper, fuller note. Holds the metal contacts and pins; shapes the sound of the bottom-out.

Sound & feel

Tactile switch with a poppy sound profile.

Sound profile

  6. Clicky

Poppy. A crisp, mid-pitched pop on every press.

Tactile switches

A bump partway down tells your finger the key is about to register.

Feel
Resistance climbs to a peak at the bump, then drops away, and your finger’s momentum carries the press through actuation. A tall bump near the top feels sharp; a lower, rounded one feels smooth.
Sound
No click — the bump is felt, not heard. The housing plastics set the tone, as on a linear.

Good for

  • Long typing sessions
  • Light typists who stop before bottoming out
  • Mixed typing and gaming
  • Anyone who wants each press confirmed

Think twice if: You mostly play games built on rapid repeated taps — the bump adds effort to every press.

Keyboards it fits(2)

Any MX-style hot-swap keyboard takes these — no soldering. They do not work in magnetic (HE) keyboards.
Hot-swap
Sockets that let you pull and insert switches without soldering. Strata 75 and Flux TKL have MX-style hot-swap sockets; Halo 65 HE has magnetic (HE) hot-swap sockets — each takes only its own kind of switch.
3-pin vs 5-pin
5-pin switches have two extra thin plastic legs that steady them in boards without a plate. Hot-swap boards with 5-pin holes take both kinds; for a 3-pin-only board, clip the two plastic legs off with flush cutters — never the metal pins.

Questions(8)

Still unsure? Write to [email protected] — we reply within one business day.

They fit any hot-swap keyboard with MX-style sockets, including our Strata 75, Flux TKL and Atelier builds. They have 5 pins, and our boards take them as they are. If your board only takes 3-pin switches, clip the two thin plastic side legs flush with a pair of flush cutters — never the metal pins. They do not work in magnetic (HE) keyboards, and a board without hot-swap sockets needs soldering to change switches.
